Abstract
Here we describe a theoretical and experimental investigations of a new three-level atom trap which is based on the rectified force [1] and has several attractive features: it is shown to produce both cooling and trapping in the absence of an applied magnetic field, it assumes uniform, non-focussed laser beams and it requires only moderately saturating field intensities [2].
