Abstract

We study many-particle effects in optically excited dense and ultracold gases. Atom-atom interaction occur via the vacuum modes of the light field leading to (a) induced dipole-dipole interaction and (b) cooperative spontaneous emission. To allow both for interactions and for exchange effects a Hartree-Fock approximation is applied to the density matrix equations.
