Phase Sensitive Photo-Detection with Dynamical Renormalization

We investigate photo-detection1 on ultra-fast time-scales2, without the rotating wave approximation3–5. This is relevant to the optimum communication limit6, of detecting a photon in one optical period. We use dynamical renormalization to treat the problem of ultra. fast photo-detection in a consistent fashion without making the RWA. A novel 4-level photo-detector model with dynamical renormalization is found to give phase sensitive behavior, but including dark-counts (intensity noise).
