Abstract
Questions are increasingly being raised about the limits and possibilities of family and school in the development of the child and in the service of society. Issues related to the nature and purpose of education and who shall control education are being raised at various points on an ideological spectrum, ranging from tighter programmatic controls at state and federal levels, to virtually complete control by parents over the education of their children (McGraw, 1978) and disestablishment of state schools (Gardner, 1975).
