Abstract
The native yellowfin Baikal sculpin develops, during the spawning period, a system of chemical communication which determines a complex of reproductive behaviors (Dmitrieva and Ostroumov, 1986). A source of sex pheromones associated with this complex of behaviors is the spawning male’s urine. We have isolated and identified three sex pheromones from such urine. One of them appears to be of nonsteroidal origin -- polyene alcohol. The other two are the steroids testosterone (T) and 11b-hydroyxtestosterone (11HT)(Katsel, 1990).
