Abstract
Compared to 10 years ago, there is considerable agreement that quality of life is an important aim in the provision of medical care and in the promotion of health. Research in recent years has rendered concrete, meaningful and feasible measures that have turned a vague abstract notion into useful ratings that can find their place alongside mortality, physiologic measures and symptoms in the spectrum of outcomes.
