Development of the ECN Argonaut Reactor for BNCT Studies

Abstract

The primary objective of the Petten BNCT-project is aiming at clinical trials at the epithermal neutron facility of the High Flux Reactor (HFR). However, for pre-clinical studies, and for further development of BNCT, a versatile test facility with both thermal and epithermal neutrons is essential. The Argonaut reactor of ECN, the Low Flux Reactor (LFR) operating at a power of 30 kW, offers opportunities for the development of such facilities, basically tailored to the further investigation of boron compounds.
