Abstract
“The objective of restorative dentistry is the reconstruction of missing parts of a tooth or missing teeth. In no other phase of dentistry is it so necessary to have a thorough knowledge of the materials which will be used to restore that missing tooth structure. The study of those reconstructive materials is fascinating when it is placed in its proper perspective--that is, a material that will be used to replace a biological and physiological substance” (1). Gold and amalgam have long been used in making restorations on the human tooth structure. These metals are not perfect replacements for their biological counterparts because they have physiological, mechanical and cosmetic drawbacks.
