Neurite Loss Caused by Ganglioside Undersialylation

An emerging thought in sialobiology holds that lessened sialylation of gangliosides by whatever means leads in the growing neuron to a quick breakdown of neurital processes followed by neuronal loss of function. This chapter will take a brief look at findings stemming from work around that idea now in full swing in the author’s laboratory.
