Abstract

Our challenge is to enable ourselves and others to enter a culture of life, a process that increasingly brings meaning to the human condition, instills hope, and establishes a process toward companionship. Unconditional valuing is the central dimension in this. Our essential role is to express to each person his or her dignity and worth by entering into a relationship based on dialogue. These interactions symbolize solidarity and prize the person through genuine and authentic expressions during good moments and difficult ones. They uplift and honor the person, not for what the individual does, but for who the individual is. We not only care for human needs, but we also care about the person because we see our own human condition in their alienation and in their longing for justice and companionship. As we try to fulfill this longing, we are creating a culture of life through our actions, interactions, and expressed beliefs. And in this, we help usher in feelings of relatedness, solidarity, and being with others.
