Abstract
People whose lives or work bring them into close contact with victims of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) cannot help but be deeply affected. I will try to describe some of these situations and their emotional impact, especially as they have come to view in my own practice of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. I hope that they may, in some measure, be representative and convey the qualities of the human dilemmas and psychiatric challenges they bring with them.
