Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute Psychological Problems Related to HIV Infection and Disease

  • Chapter
Book cover Behavioral Aspects of AIDS

Abstract

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and disease are as much social issues as medical issues. A distinguishing characteristic of the response of the health care establishment to patients and their social milieus is the imperative to change the ways in which people act. Such imperatives for change include the motivating of safer sexual and drug-use practices and of increased public tolerance and understanding of those (groups) directly affected.
