Molecular Cloning, Overexpression of Rz Lysis Gene of Phage λ and Subcellular Localization of its Protein Product

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Federation of European Microbiological Societies Symposium Series ((FEMS,volume 65))

Abstract

Bacteriophage λ encodes three genes involved in bacterial lysis: SR and Rz localized in the right arm of λ DNA. These genes belong to the late operon, which is transcribed rightward from the late p’R promoter. Its transcription requires the Q protein for the antitermination (Friedman and Gottesman, 1983).
