Summary
The problems in developing an overall system for ascomycete classification are addressed through “Outlines of the ascomycetes” published at intervals in Systerna Ascornycetum, a journai devoted to the construction of an improving system for the group. The background and concept are discussed, the controversy occasioned is reviewed, and future plans for the “Outline” and the journal are noted.
