The goal of this study has been to use historical archaeology to explore social, economic, and cultural processes on the Russian periphery of the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century capitalist world system. It has been an opportunity to create and explore a set of interactions between excavation results, particularistic historical data, and ideas about processes unfolding on the regional and global scales. The first task of this concluding chapter is to summarize and discuss the results of this inquiry, with reference to site-specific hypotheses advanced in Chapter 3 and to the data detailed in Chapters 3–5. A more general prospective for world system archaeological studies in Russian America follows, including review of results produced by other recent studies.
