Threshold Condition of Single-Mode Gain-Coupled DFB Lasers
Stable single-mode lasers with narrow linewidth are highly desirable in advanced fiber optic systems. As one of the effective approaches to obtain single mode oscillation in DFB lasers, a gain grating has attracted considerable attention in recent years. Since the coupling strength of a gain grating is gain-dependent, the study of the threshold condition of gain-coupled DFB lasers is much more complex than that of index-coupled DFB lasers.1‘2 Such a study is also crucial for the determination of the conditions needed for increasing the single mode yield of gain-coupled DFB lasers.
