An All-Optical Tunable Filter for Low-Crosstalk Wavelength Routing in WDM Networks

  • Chapter
Book cover Applications of Photonic Technology

Abstract

Among various options to exploit the tremendous bandwidth of the optical medium and meet the needs for broadband multimedia telecommunications, multiwavelength optical networks appear to be the most promising. The simple amplification function of EDFA amplifiers, which is independent of the operating data rate and can simultaneously accommodate many wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) channels will allow WDM technology and architecture to be utilized in a very cost-effective manner.
