Backward and Multi-Echo Field Ionization by Intense Non-Envelope ‘Superpulses’

We have discovered theoretically that the ionization of a quantum well or a hydrogen-like atom by a unipolar, i. e. strongly asymmetrical ultrashort electromagnetic pulse produces a highly symmetrical photoelectron cloud, the electrons emmitted both along the field and in the opposite direction in well-separated groups (shells) whose velocities for a quantum well reflect resonances in the ionization continuum.
