Abstract
American and Chinese perspectives on education are a particularly fascinating and timely subject. The Taiwanese Republic is frequently characterized as the fastest developing country that combines the highest rate of economic progress with relative social and political stability. It is operating an educational system which subscribes to the democratic principles but under conditions of governmental support, which involves naturally a certain degree of central control, at least by Western standards.
