Articulatory Deficits in Parkinson’s and Huntington’s Disease: An Acoustic Analysis

Abstract

Investigations of rapid voluntary activity of distal upper limb muscles have demonstrated common motor deficits, e.g. bradykinesia and delayed transition between movements, in Huntington’s (HD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD).1 Since both striatal disorders may give rise to speech motor disturbances, the question emerges whether HD and PD dysarthria are characterized by similar articulatory deteriorations as well.
