Abstract
The use of homogeneous catalysts on an industrial scale leads to a number of practical problems, e.g., difficulties associated with corrosion, plating out on the reactor wall, and catalyst recovery from the reaction mixture. Chemically bonding metal complexes to an insoluble solid is one of the sufficient methods for conquering these difficulties.1–3 This method is achieved by the treatment of metal ions with organic or inorganic polymers containing ligand atoms having a coordinating ability to metals. The catalysts, prepared in such manner, are situated between those usually classified as “heterogeneous” and as “homogeneous”, and can be regarded as a new class of catalysts: “hybrid catalysts”.
