Judging from the scientific progress in the area of lactoferrin research that was presented at the Third International Conference, it is evident that this field is “alive and well”—the number of researchers present was higher than at the previous two conferences and the variety of biological activities ascribed to lactoferrin being explored has increased. More tools and sensitive techniques that can be used for this exploration are now available, ranging from powerful analytical instruments, synthetic peptides/epitopes and molecular biology methods to “knock-out” animal models.
