Abstract

This chapter deals with the first stage of the four-stage paradigm outlined in Chapter 1. In this chapter we learn how to collect data and code it into numerical form. The discussion will include a consideration of:

  • variables, cases and values

  • coding strategies

  • preparation of the questionnaire and codebook

  • coding the dataset
