Abstract
Schizophrenia is heterogeneous with respect to its symptoms, course, and outcome. So, too, are the individuals afflicted with it, with respect to their vulnerabilities, assets, and needs. For these reasons, our overall guiding principle in the therapy and management of this disorder is that no single treatment can be definitive or preferred. Instead, as illustrated by the variety of therapeutic interventions described in this volume, the treatment of schizophrenia requires a broad approach using multiple modalities.
