Abstract
In September 1996 the Dutch Government presented proposals on the future of the social security system in the Netherlands. These proposals were laid down in a document titled ‘Werken aan Zekerheid’ (Building for Security). This document gives a description of the social security system in the Netherlands as a whole and in particular the position of occupational pensions within that system.
