Methyl 5-(Diethylaminomethyl)-2-Furoate

Abstract
A solution of 17.4 g (0.1 mole) of methyl 5-(chloromethyl)-2-furoate (see p. 29), b.p. 114–116° /3 mm, in 50 ml of dry benzene was prepared in a 200-ml round-bottomed flask fitted with reflux condenser and dropping funnel. The solution was cooled with ice water, and a solution of 14.6 g (0.2 mole) of diethylamine in 30 ml of dry benzene was added over a period of ten minutes.
