Abstract
A solution of 10.5 g (0.05 mole) of methyl 5-(diethylaminomethyl)-2-furoate (see p. 22), b.p. 102–103° /1.5 mm, in 150 ml of dry ether was added dropwise over a period of 0.5–1 hour to a stirred ethereal solution (200 ml) of lithium aluminum hydride (Note 1) contained in a 500-ml three-necked flask fitted with mercury-sealed stirrer, dropping funnel, and reflux condenser protected by a calcium chloride tube.
