An Overview of Compiler Techniques for Embedded Processors

The challenge of constructing compilers for today’s embedded processors is faced with a wealth of compilation techniques designed initially for architectures of a wide variety. These techniques have been converging from two main areas: software compilation for general-purpose microprocessors and high-level synthesis for ASICs [36]. This chapter presents a review of individual techniques with emphasis on the methods which apply to the constraints imposed by today’s embedded processors.
