Abstract

The prevalence of obesity is increasing at alarming rates across all sociodemographic groups in industrialized and developing nations alike. Obesity poses a tremendous clinical challenge, as it contributes to significant morbidity and mortality and carries a staggering economic cost. In this chapter, we examine the current understanding of the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology and treatment of obesity.
