Abstract

Over the last ten years, sexual aggression research has seen a rapid increase in studies exploring risk factors of sexual victimisation. The search for variables that are systematically associated with an increased risk of sexual victimisation has both conceptual and practical significance. Conceptually, understanding antecedent and concomitant conditions linked to sexual victimisation facilitates our understanding of the dynamics of interactions leading to unwanted sexual experiences. From a practical point of view, knowledge about risk factors helps to identify persons, behaviours, and situational constellations susceptible to sexual aggression that may be targeted by prevention programmes.
