Abstract

Point-contact experiments in the magnetic field may be used both to study the material properties and to search the influence of the restricted geometry on the constriction conductivity (trajectory effects). The mesoscopic phenomena in the magnetoconductivity also relate to the latter issues. Sharvin and Maxwell contributions to the contact resistance are altered by a magnetic field in a different way. Generally, the Maxwell part of the point-contact resistance behaves in accordance with the bulk magnetoresistance, whereas the ballistic resistance is sensitive to a magnetic field because of the appearance of Landau quantization levels on the Fermi surface. In the other words, a magnetic field influence on the contact conductance can be separated into classic trajectory or quantum-mechanical effects.
