Abstract

A military eye-safe rangefinder based on a Er3+: glass Q — switched laser is described. The output energy of the laser is up to 50 mJ with a pulse duration of ~ 25 ns. Under typical operating conditions the expected range of the system may be up to ~ 5 Km.
