Image formation in the microscope

  • R. Haynes

In order to understand the formation of the image in the microscope we must consider it from the points of view both of geometrical optics and of the wave theory of light. The former yields information about the magnifications that can be attained and the types and positions of the image formed, while the latter yields information about the detail that can be resolved by the microscope objective and the quality of the image.
