The mechanical construction of the microscope
There are two types of microscope, simple and compound. A simple microscope is a magnifying glass and usually is designed to produce an image that is up to several times larger than the object. Such glasses are useful for visual examination of macroscopic features, e.g. of fractures. However, to observe and resolve liner detail a compound microscope must be used.
