Guest Editor’s Introduction

Abstract

As a result of the popular deployment of the Internet and Web, one of the most vexing technological problems of the information age is about to be solved: worldwide information connectivity. Ironically, this has led to the emergence of new problems that were previously pushed aside because of a lack of cheaply available connectivity. In that regard, the age old goal of “information at our fingertips” remains largely just that, a goal. This is especially true when applied to sharing useful information, i.e., data stored in corporate databases. However, active research in different areas of databases are making that goal closer to being achieved.
