Abstract

The first part of this chapter deals successively with early monetary cooperation, the European Monetary System, and the monetary union established by the Maastricht Treaty. The second part gives an appraisal of the EC’s activity.

  • The Office for Official Publications of the European Communities in Luxemburg published the texts of the basic treaties in all official languages. See, for example, European union. Selected instruments taken from the Treaties (Book I, 2 vol., 1995). For the official texts of EC legislation and communications see the Official Journal of the European Communities — every working day, in English since 1 January 1973

The Journal consists of two series, the L (legislation) and the C (information and notices).
