Abstract
Severe community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is generally regarded as pneumonia requiring a specific clinical approach in an intensive care unit (ICU) [1–15]. Between 10 and 36% of patients with CAP who are hospitalized need ICU treatment [3, 16, 17], and mortality ranges from 20 to 50% [5–11].
