At a conference of all the investigating groups on January 19, 1995, just a week before the first public hearing on Flight 427 in Pittsburgh, Tom Hauteur appealed to all members to seriously consider any other issues they felt should be investigated. After the hearing, on February 9, the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) came forward with the suggestion of reconvening the cockpit voice recorder groups from both Flight 427 and Flight 585, and comparing tapes to see if they held any unusual sounds in common.
