Abstract

Dave King, the veteran British air crash investigator, made one criticism in his report to Cynthia Keegan on Flight 427. He called the state of the regulations that allowed US airlines to continue flying with a minimum standard for flight data recorders “a handicap to the investigation.” He added, “The addition of flight control positions”—routine parameters for the flight data recorders used by airlines outside the US—“might have enabled the investigators to eliminate certain possible causes, if not identify the cause of the flight path departure.”
