Radioactivity Logging

  • Lee M. Etnyre

Abstract

Radioactivity logging began in the 1940s. Many improvements have been made since then, and several different types of measurements are used in well logging. The atomic nucleus has discrete rather than continuous stable states. When the nucleus changes from one stable state to another, this change is accompanied by the emission of atomic particles or energy. This process of emission of particles or energy is termed radioactivity. Radioactivity may be either induced or natural.
