Abstract
We are nowadays witnessing an extraordinary increase of transmission capacity in the core transport networks, thanks to the recent opto-electronic technology advances. These are often complex and expensive technologies to ensure the capacity and the resilience needed for the huge amount of transported information from thousands of individual users.
