Abstract
The sheer number of behavioral and cognitive abnormalities associated with FAS/ ARBE are now so extensive that at least three inferences seem warranted: (a) FAS/ ARBE is a very destructive disorder; (b) it has a great many effects; and (c) it is so inscrutable that it has become a magnet attracting every problem for which alternative explanations are not otherwise evident. In this context, greater attention to the syndrome’s behavioral and cognitive aspects has meant more studies but not necessarily a better understanding of these problems.
