National Parks Visitor Centers
American attitudes toward the outdoors are changing. More and more people are camping, hiking, backpacking and generally spending more time in the outdoors. Although these changing attitudes are affecting many facets of society, from clothing styles to the sales of recreational vehicles, the national parks are bearing the brunt of the changes. Once used only by a few people (who were mostly white and upper class), the parks are now used by a broad range of visitors. Heavy use of the parks has prompted serious discussion as to whether campsites at national parks should be on a reservation-only system, with waiting lists of months or years for a site.
