Abstract

The heterogeneity of various endotoxin (ET) preparations, should they be extracted by the trichloroacetic acid method of Boivin and co-workers, or by the phenol-water procedure of Westphal and Luderitz, has been well documented (26, 27). Several papers from our laboratory elaborated on the experimental details and emphasized the significance of this observation from both chemical and biological viewpoints (23, 24, 25, 29).
