In this chapter we carry further the algebraic theory of elliptic curves over fields of characteristic p > 0. We already know that the p-division points in characteristic p form a group isomorphic to Z/p Z or zero while the -division points form a group isomorphic to (Z/ Z)2 for p. Moreover, the endomorphism algebra has rank 1 or 2 in characteristic 0 but possibly also rank 4 in characteristic p > 0.
