Elementary Properties of Deformations and Stresses
Elements of a moving continuous medium change in various ways. Some of them change their size and shape (i.e., a deformation occurs), whereas other elements move as a rigid body (i.e. the distance between any two particles remains unchanged). The change of elements of the medium may be characterized on the basis of a description of the motion.
