Abstract
Difficulties in the physical interpretation of the electron conductivity of amorphous materials prompted A. F. Ioffe and other workers to put forward short-range order and the associated chemical bonding as the most important factors determining the nature of semiconductors [1–7]. Investigations of liquid [8–10] and vitreous [11–13] semiconductors have played a considerable part in studies of the semiconductor problem in this direction. At the same time, studies of the problem of the vitreous state of matter also revealed the cardinal role of the nature of the chemical bond in glass formation [14].
