Abstract
The antimicrobial agents described so far have been arranged together according to their primary effects on cellular metabolism and biosynthesis. This approach accounts for many of the most important drugs in current antimicrobial therapy. There are, however, several valuable drugs whose various modes of action fall outside those most commonly encountered. In this chapter we describe some important examples of compounds with unusual actions which we have arranged according to their therapeutic targets: antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and antiprotozoal.
