Abstract

Closed cup DSC techniques along with TGA were used to compare the thermal decomposition behavior of AP-KP mixed crystals with that of physical mixtures of similar composition as well as pure components. The chief problem in comparing ΔH data so obtained with that established by other means, such as closed bomb calorimetry, is that the decomposition pathways may not be identical under the two sets of conditions. Nevertheless, for purposes of the indicated comparisons DSC was judged to be useful. It is necessary to keep in mind, though, certain limitations and relevant problems in order not to draw unwarranted conclusions.
