Abstract
The ELEXSYS E 600/680 spectrometer series manufactured by Bruker BioSpin is described. It is the only commercially available EPR system operating at an electron-spin resonance frequency of 94 GHz. After an introduction reviewing the pioneering work with respect to high frequency EPR, this chapter presents the key elements of the spectrometer and describes in detail the specific features. The outstanding performance is marked by its sensitivity of 2·107 spins/EquationSource % MathType!MTEF!2!1!+- % feaagCart1ev2aaatCvAUfeBSjuyZL2yd9gzLbvyNv2CaerbuLwBLn % hiov2DGi1BTfMBaeXatLxBI9gBaerbd9wDYLwzYbItLDharqqtubsr % 4rNCHbGeaGqiVu0Je9sqqrpepC0xbbL8F4rqqrFfpeea0xe9Lq-Jc9 % vqaqpepm0xbba9pwe9Q8fs0-yqaqpepae9pg0FirpepeKkFr0xfr-x % fr-xb9adbaqaaeGaciGaaiaabeqaamaabaabaaGcbaGaaiikaiaadE % eadaGcaaqaaiaadIeacaWG6baaleqaaOGaaiykaaaa!3A0A! ]]</EquationSource><EquationSource Format="TEX"><![CDATA[$$ (G\sqrt {Hz} ) $$, which equals or is better than that of any other comparable instrument. With the technical characterization and two applications as examples, this chapter provides information what can be done with a CW and pulsed high-frequency EPR system and how it is practically realized using the Bruker instrument. This information not only allows comparing specifications of spectrometers operating at different frequencies but also is helpful in choosing the right instrument for a particular scientific problem.
